How to send free sms through your regular email.

On of the most used way of electronic communication is the use of sms.
You can send sms from your email to any mobile number for free. All you need is to know the number's carrier or gateway.
don't panic yet. I will explain.
In Nigeria for instance, MTN, GLO, AIRTEL... are all carriers. Each of them have their gateway address
The goodnews is that you can send free sms from Nigeria to the U.S, U.K, Australia, SouthAfrica... through your regular emai. I.e your yahoomail, gmail, e.t.c
The sad part is that you can't send it to a Nigeria network. This is because our Network carriers(mtn, glo...) have hidden their gateway. But no problem. You can send unlimited and free sms through your email to your people abroad.
Okay! Enough of beating about the bush. Lets get straight to business
HOW TO:
The format is:
PHONE_NUMBER@GATEWAY
For example, to send to a person whose carrier is ATT Wireless(U.S) and whose phone no is 0162862858 (this number is assumed),
I will send the email to the address:
0162862858@txt.att.net
txt.att.net is the gateway for ATT wireless.
Here is a brief list of other network Gateways:
where n reps phone number
United States
  • Teleflip: n@teleflip.com
  • Alltel: n@message.alltel.com
  • Ameritech: n@paging.acswireless.com
  • ATT Wireless: n@txt.att.net
  • Cingular: 1n@mobile.mycingular.com

You can get a complete List of the gateways here
Conclusion So that's that. Mail the message to their phone. It quite preferable to recieve the message as sms/mms.
But note that 1 out of 10 of those carriers will charge the reciepient. So like i said 1/10. Most wont charge.
Sorry for the Long notes and thanks for reading.
